Plath Float Home

a float home built in Port Townsend and moored in Lake Union

Plath Float Home

Seattle, WA

Typically float homes are built on site, in the water. The Plath float home was constructed in a ship yard in Port Townsend, lifted into the water and towed with a tugboat to Wards Cove on Lake Union. Unique features of this float home include exterior siding made of tree bark strips, a green roof, a custom-designed tongue and groove roof structure with mahogany finish on the bottom that serves as the interior ceiling, and the metal railing that functions as a structural truss.
