Mercer Island, WA
Initially built to provide steam heat for school buildings on Mercer Island, Cardinal Architecture and SSF evaluated the 1928 Luther Burbank Park Boiler Building and made recommendations for repairs and improvements. The concrete and masonry structure is being seismically retrofitted for improved public safety and will also get a new roof, masonry repairs, and updated restrooms. A future phase of renovation will finish the interior of the building for offices, classrooms, and gear storage. It will provide direct, convenient access from the parking lot to complete the building’s transition to a waterfront activity center for small craft boating programs.
