The $6 million Lummi Training and Technical Center project is a 16,600 SF training facility and 7,000 SF shop building for teaching the construction and marine trades. The structure for the classrooms, computer lab, offices, and art gallery is primarily wood-framed with exposed Pacific Coast Douglas Fir log columns and beams in select areas. The shop area is divided into two sections, a main shop and a welding shop, each with their own 2-ton overhead crane. Both will be 24′ high to allow work on boats and use of a tall backhoe. This structure will be either a prefabricated insulated metal building, or some combination of concrete and light gauge steel framing.
