Clare’s place is a four-story housing complex offering 65 units of affordable living spaces, predominantly consisting of studios alongside one-bedroom corner apartments. The first floor features dedicated offices for case managers and counselors, providing support for the residents. This project is a key component of the City of Everett’s Safe Streets Plan, designed in line with the “Housing First” model. It offers permanent, supportive housing for individuals grappling with mental health issues and/or substance abuse, particularly those facing the challenges of chronic homelessness.
This net-zero building sets an impressive environmental standard by featuring a 236 KW solar PV system installed on the roof, which provides 100% of the facility’s energy needs. Accommodating this extensive solar array required innovative design elements, including 7′ roof overhangs, which were successfully addressed through a combination of framing approaches to achieve the long cantilevers required to support the PV array.
