After nearly 100 years of use as a local dairy barn and hay storage, the Walter Cooper Dairy Barn received approval from the King County Landmarks Commission for the adaptive reuse for a distillery, tasting room and event space. Originally constructed in 1925, the design sought to minimize change and many features and materials were able to be preserved or reused. Where deterioration was too extensive, new materials compatible with the existing historic features were then used. The project received grants through the Heritage Barn Preservation Initiative (Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation) and the 4Culture Capital Grant Program. Phase 1 of the project is complete. Phase 2 consists of final improvements needed for the distillery, tasting room and event space.
