Snohomish Carnegie Library Adaptive Re-use

Snohomish Carnegie Library Adaptive Re-use

Snohomish, WA

In 2003, the Snohomish Library Services moved from the Snohomish Carnegie Library to a new Sno-Isle Library building. The city used the building for public meetings and rental space. In 2017, roof damage required the facility to close for safety reasons.

The City of Snohomish partnered with the Snohomish Carnegie Foundation to restore this community jewel. The 1910 historic building was returned to its original glory while also updating the HVAC systems and making all three floors accessible to those with disabilities. The project removed a 1968 addition, restored the original front entrance, and added a small outdoor stage area for performances. The renovation of the north exterior, concrete stairs, and landings closely match the original historic structure. Adding new glulam beams on steel posts and concrete foundations allowed large open spaces in the basement. The facility is now used again for community and private events.
