Shoreline Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit

Shoreline Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit

Shoreline, WA

Located on a large lot in Shoreline, the owners of this property wanted to build a DADU in their back yard to use as a rental. Working with Targa Homes, they soon realized they could build a beautiful new 700 SF sustainable and high performance DADU for themselves and rent their existing 1950’s home. One sustainable design element included the use of 23 diamond piers for the foundation in lieu of a traditional foundation. Using diamond piers reduced the project’s carbon impact by not excavating, not pouring a foundation, not creating dust, and not using diesel fuel for those activities. Other sustainable home features included the use of reclaimed fir for both the framing and some interior walls, cork floors, extra insulation, and an efficient Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) for ventilation.
