Mukilteo, WA
Mukilteo’s new community center is located on the site of the old Rosehill School just a few blocks from the ferry terminal. It is an L-shaped building with one wing devoted to classroom space and senior programs, and the other wing devoted to a multi-purpose room with a stage, catering kitchen, and ancillary spaces. There is also a lower level under the multi-purpose room that has space for athletic classes. The building is predominantly framed with Glulam beams and exposed T&G decking. To provide a stiff floor, and to accommodate longer spans, the floor of the multi-purpose room is framed with structural steel and concrete over metal deck. Lateral loads are resisted by wood shearwalls, concrete shearwalls, steel braced frames and a steel moment frame. This LEED Silver building is designed as an Essential Facility so that it can be used as an emergency shelter.
