SSF proudly served on the design team for the seismic upgrade and renovations of the Green Lake Carnegie Library. Built in 1909, the unreinforced masonry (URM) building got HVAC, fire alarm, plumbing and electrical improvements, an elevator replacement, and structural upgrades of shotcrete walls and steel moment frames to bring the building up to seismic code. The completed seismic retrofit brings the building up to an enhanced performance typically reserved for Risk Category III buildings. The retrofit incorporated new steel moment frames designed to match and integrate with the historic finishes of the original structure. Other components of the retrofit included concrete shearwalls, wall anchorage, and strong backing of the historic hollow clay tile partition walls. The project also expanded the basement level for ADA accessibility improvements, including a new elevator and elevator lobby.
All work is designed to integrate with the historic architecture common in Carnegie Library structures. The project is LEED Gold certified.
