Located in the San Juan Islands, this new 800 SF backyard cottage features custom exposed structural elements throughout with hidden connections to highlight the heavy timber construction. Careful placement of the structure’s shearwalls allows for a completely open west elevation that steps out onto a covered porch area. The primary structural system includes wood shearwalls for wind and seismic forces and heavy timber and glulam framing for gravity support.
