Orcas Island, WA
Nestled into a 30-foot wide clearing on Orcas Island, this Buck Mountain cabin fits organically within the surrounding forest. While the steeply sloped site was challenging, it presented an opportunity to build the 1500 SF cabin on top of the natural rock, giving the main living area unparalleled water and forest views. The structure is anchored to basalt at one end and floats 22 feet above the ground to embrace the west-facing views. Pocketing sliding doors at either end of the home allow for fluid movement between interiors and exteriors.
