Bellingham, WA
Built in 1913, this project was the seismic study and phased renovation of the historic, 2-story (plus basement) Bellingham Federal building. The structure consists of reinforced concrete floors supported by structural steel beams at the interior, and by unreinforced bearing walls at the exterior. The foundations are conventional strip and spread footings. The building was analyzed using FEMA 356 methodology. A report was created detailing the findings and recommendations for seismic improvement. Improvements to the building included the design of wall and cornice anchorage systems and structural modifications to support a new elevator and two flights of stairs.
