Juneau, AK
Completed in 1931, the Alaska Territory Capitol Building is made from brick-faced reinforced concrete with a facade of Indiana limestone on the first two floors. A three phase project, Phase 1 was the renovation of the portico that is made of Tokeen marble (local Alaska marble from the Prince of Wales Island). Construction for this phase was completed during the summer of 2014. Phases 2 and 3 were the removal of the exterior cladding, strengthening of the structure and recladding with a new brick veneer and precast concrete panels. These phases were completed during the summers of 2015 and 2016. SSF worked closely with PAUL LUKES: Building Envelope Consulting Services LLC, Jensen Yorba Lott Architects, and Dawson Construction on this notable historic renovation.
