Poulsbo’s new Centennial building offers a place to eat, drink and work

Tim Ryan Properties completed The Centennial, a community hub at 19225 Eighth Ave. N.E. just off Highway 305 in downtown Poulsbo.

The two-story, 39,000-square-foot building houses local businesses Vibe Coworks, Crabtree Kitchen + Bar, High Spirits, and ChocMo Chocolatier and Cafe. It was completed in 2018, and all tenant improvements were done by this year.

Rice Fergus Miller was the architect and interior designer and designed the tenant improvements.

The site is adjacent to Centennial Park and a creek. The architect said the design maximizes views and has an industrial vibe. Design elements highlight local materials, including furnishings and fixtures made from trees sourced in Poulsbo. Large storefront windows and skylights bring lots of daylight into each space. Wide balconies at Vibe Coworks and Crabtree offer outdoor seating.

In a press release, Rice Fergus Miller said sustainability was a project goal in both design and business operations. Strategies included restoring the creek’s edge to its original habitat, capturing stormwater and reusing local materials. Additionally, the project is near a major bus stop and has bike racks. And Crabtree grows herbs and lettuce in short wall dividers in the restaurant for use there and in ChocMo, and intends to grow fruit and vegetables.

Crabtree is a farm-to-table restaurant whose design highlights materials and pieces reused from the community. It has live-edge tables, wide-plank floors, a granite bar and brown leather upholstered seating, and makes use of reclaimed wood throughout the space.

Tim Ryan Properties developed and owns The Centennial.

The team included Tim Ryan Construction, contractor; Swenson Say Faget, structural engineer; MAP Limited, civil engineer; Ecotope, mechanical engineer; Travis Fitzmaurice Wartelle Balangue Engineers, electrical engineer; and Clevenger Associates, kitchen consultant.
