HopTown Wood-Fired Pizza has opened a new location at 400 S. Sixth Street in the city of Sunnyside in eastern Washington. The restaurant was designed by Seattle architectural firm Graham Baba Architects.
Work comprised the adaptive reuse of a 1970s building which originally housed a Kentucky Fried Chicken but had sat vacant for over ten years.
According to the architect, “the primary goal was to turn what had been an eye sore of a building and vacant space on a prominent corner in downtown Sunnyside into a building that would activate the street and be an example of what good design can do.”
HopTown’s new home features an attractive facade with brick and exposed timber elements and a mix of industrial and organic materials and finishes on the interior.
This is the second location for the pizzeria which opened its first brick and mortar restaurant in Donald, near Wapato, in 2017.
The team for the Sunnyside project also includes, Port of Sunnyside, client; M Sevigny Construction Inc., general contractor; Swenson SayFaget, structural engineer; Maul Foster, civil engineer; Conetix Engineering, electrical engineer; and Routh Engineering, mechanical engineer.
