Stone Way Auto is a 10,000-square-foot community event space located in a former manufacturing building at 3621 Stone Way, between Seattle’s Wallingford and Fremont neighborhoods.
Built in 1953, the unreinforced masonry building has been transformed into a multipurpose event and garage space. Work involved complicated structural stabilization and energy code upgrades.
The design adds a new mezzanine level, and a penthouse bar and deck at roof level. The mezzanine creates two intimate spaces within the larger volume of the building, with a dining area on the ground floor and a lounge area above. A new skylight draws daylight into the back of the building, illuminating a full commercial kitchen designed to serve 225-person events.
A set of two stairways connects all three levels, as does a new elevator and bathroom core. New metal siding, silver-painted plywood skylight frames, and steel stairs and railings complement the original industrial building.
