This project for the Woodmont Library doubled the branch’s usable space. In order to maximize the open space, the sweeping roof structure consists of custom fabricated long-span steel girders supporting open web wood trusses. Exposed steel moment frames buttress the intersection of the existing and new library structure and steel stud framed shear walls with cantilever steel columns provide the lateral load resisting system for the extensively glazed south and east walls of the addition.
This project received a 2012 Civic Design Merit Award from the American Institute of Architects Washington Council.
