Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) Brick Building Renovation

Seismic retrofit and the addition of a new ADA-compliant entryway and elevator

Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) Brick Building Renovation

Seattle, WA

The Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) was built in 1918 as John Allen Elementary School, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a City of Seattle Landmark. The school district used the three-story building until 1981. In 2014, SSF worked with SHKS Architects on a study and seismic renovation. We provided a site investigation and an ASCE41 checklist, attended meetings regarding the direction and options available, and helped develop a plan to address the most critical deficiencies. Subsequently, the building received a seismic retrofit and the addition of a new ADA-compliant entryway and elevator, and a new exterior stair.
