7 Seas Brewing has opened a new brewery and taproom at 2905 Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor. The business is located in a new 6,000-square-foot waterfront building owned by Horsehead Investments.
The two-story building replaces an aging property which for 26 years was occupied by Green Turtle Restaurant. Horsehead Investments purchased that structure in 2017. Green Turtle’s last day of business was in September 2019.
7 Seas temporarily opened a taproom in the old building in March 2021, ahead of its demolition to make way for the new custom-designed structure.
Demolition began last October, and the new brewery and taproom opened late last month. Washington Patriot Construction built the new building which was designed by Tacoma-based Ferguson Architecture. Swenson Say Faget was the structural engineer.
The new structure is around double the size of the previous one and can be accessed by patrons via both land and sea. As part of the redevelopment of the site, an existing 4,300-square-foot dock was modified into a smaller marina of around 3,700 square feet. That marina is shared among taproom visitors and private moorage.
7 Seas both sells and brews its beer at the new Harborview Drive location. The building’s main level houses a taproom with both family and adults-only areas. On-site brewing operations are located on the lower level, which also has office and storage space. A new deck wraps around the water and south sides of the property and there is also a 1,100-square-foot patio for outdoor libations and dining. Food at the taproom is offered by Millville Pizza Co.
Ferguson Architecture’s design for the new location makes the most of the site’s panoramic views of the Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, and Gig Harbor Lighthouse. The structure is oriented toward the waterfront and has lots of floor-to-ceiling glass. The firm also designed the new building to fit with Gig Harbor’s fishing village character via the use of lots of wood.
7 Seas Brewing was founded by friends Mike Runion and Travis Guterson in 2008. In addition to the new Gig Harbor spot, the company operates an 80,000-square-foot brewery, taproom and canning facility in the historic Heidelberg Brewery building at 2101 Jefferson Ave. in Tacoma.
