SSF provided structural engineering services for tenant improvements at the Seattle Animal Shelter in the Interbay neighborhood. Initially constructed in the early 1980s as the City’s first purpose-built animal shelter, the facility required targeted upgrades to support current needs and future growth identified in a master planning effort by SHKS Architects, the City of Seattle, and the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation.
Structural work included the removal of an existing bearing wall, the creation of new openings in existing CMU walls, and the infill of portions of a concrete wall. These interventions supported the reconfiguration of the Cat and Critter area, aligning with evolving operational goals while maintaining the integrity of the original structure.
