Pickering Barn

SSF provided seismic engineering for the Pickering Barn restoration. Listed on the National Historic Register, careful considerations of all aspects of restoration ensured that the Barn retained its historic status. To meet current live-load requirements, a tension-only braced system and the existing gravity systems were strengthened in both the 1878 hay barn and the 1906 dairy barn addition. Over 80% of the original siding, columns and beams were re-used in the restoration. The project emphasized sustainable design concentrating on the use of pre-manufactured wood made from waste-wood products.
