Ellensburg, WA
SSF conducted a comprehensive condition assessment and seismic evaluation of the historic Cadwell Building located in the heart of Ellensburg, Washington. This structure presently houses the Kittitas County Historical Museum, a proud Ellensburg Downtown Historic District member. In collaboration with the museum’s director, SSF compiled a prioritized roster of restoration and seismic retrofitting recommendations. These recommendations have been segmented into phases to align with the acquisition of funding through statewide grants and capital campaigns.
Phase one of this revitalization effort is underway, with Pioneer Masonry currently engaged in re-pointing the building’s external brick veneer. This initial step enhances the building’s aesthetics and serves as a precursor to the broader seismic enhancement project. Subsequent phases will address and rectify the seismic vulnerabilities inherent in this historic, unreinforced masonry structure. Completing these future phases will ensure the long-term safety, preservation, and continued cultural significance of the Caldwell Building within Ellensburg and the greater Kittitas County community.
