This new 6,100-square-foot residence overlooks Lake Washington. The main structure is wood framed with manufactured floor and roof joists. Steel beams and columns are incorporated into the design to create an open floor plan. Wood shear walls are used as lateral resisting elements for the majority of the structure. A moment frame allowed a large window wall with a view to the lake to be installed along the east elevation of the residence. The garage roof was constructed using glulam beams which allowed for a large open space without columns. The roof and gutters are designed to collect rainwater and in one area cantilevers out from the roof eight feet to allow water to be collected in three cisterns for summer irrigation
