Port Angeles
The 40,000 SF Field Arts and Events Hall is a $34 million project that includes a 500-seat auditorium and a 300-seat conference center. Named after Dorothy Field, the donor of the project’s property, the Field Arts and Events Hall is the first of three buildings that will make up the Port Angeles Waterfront Center. The other two buildings will be a marine discovery center and a cultural center for the Lower Elsha Klallam Tribe.
The Arts and Events Hall is a 2-story predominantly steel-framed structure with the performance hall enclosed in concrete and masonry walls. The performance hall also has steel framed cantilevered balconies. The building roof and floor structure consists of concrete on steel deck both for structural and acoustic requirements. A large portion of the building’s exterior cladding consists of curtain wall glazing backed by structural glue laminated wood framing. The building is in a high seismic and high wind area and building lateral loads are resisted by the central concrete and masonry walls with limited steel braced frames. Due to extensive fill and marine sediments on the site, the building structure is supported on an 18” thick mat slab which is supported on 185 18-inch diameter driven steel piles.
