Elizabeth Thomas Homes is a 150,000 SF affordable apartment building with 119 units ranging from one to three bedrooms for individuals and families earning between 50%-60% of the area’s median income. The ground floor has 1,100 SF for a future commercial tenant. The complex features an interior courtyard with a play area, a rooftop deck, an on-site laundry, a computer lab, and a community room for events. The project was named after a head nurse at the Seattle Children’s Odessa Brown Clinic in the Central District and WA State Nurses Association Hall of Fame inductee, Elizabeth R. Thomas.
The project’s structural system is five stories of wood framing over one level of concrete supported on conventional spread footings. The rooftop deck includes an extensive roof garden with an outdoor paved deck area, planters, and solar panels. SSF also designed steel framed trellises and canopy structures for the ground floor courtyard.
