Clyde Hill, WA
This 2-story, 5000 SF home and 900 SF garage/shop is located in Bellevue’s prestigious Clyde Hill neighborhood. The home’s design has a variety of angles and cantilevers and unusual spaces. The upper level of the home is divided into two wings. These wings are tied together with a bridge structure that is partially supported by a central stair tower. The design team wanted the stairs and landings to appear to ‘float’. This is where SSF shines! To achieve the floating stair effect, SSF used discrete steel framing connected to wood framed structure. We worked closely with the design team to provide for the lateral stability of the home thru the use of strategically placed plywood shearwalls. These collaborative efforts avoided the use of relatively expensive steel moment frames. Also there were a number of owner-initiated revisions during construction. SSF successfully navigated these changes in a timely manner which attributed to the success of the project.
