Buck Mountain Residence

new residence high atop Orcas Island

Buck Mountain Residence

Orcas Island, WA

Located on a steep slope high above the Puget Sound, this home’s structure consists of steel trusses that sit on concrete fin walls to create a 28 foot platform,  allowing the residence to float over the mountainside with minimal site impact. A low slope, timber-framed clerestory provides natural light and orients the solar panels properly for optimal power. Maintenance requirements are minimized by using fiber cement board cladding and steel components that do not require paint. This home features folding door systems in lieu of walls that allow amazing views from most rooms in the house.
