Seattle Fire Station 18

City of Seattle fire station renovation

Seattle Fire Station 18

Seattle, WA

Originally  funded by Fire Facilities and Emergency Response Levy Program approved in 2003, Seattle Fire Station 18 in Ballard was one of the last stations to be renovated. The scope included a seismic upgrade, renovation of interior spaces and additions. Improvements included providing individual bunk rooms for all crew members, light- and temperature-controlled bunker gear storage, and expanded maintenance facilities. Envelope improvements increased the building’s overall thermal performance and a new elevator made all floors accessible. New energy efficient HVAC systems were installed. The existing reinforced concrete fire station structure was analyzed using ASCE 31-03 and ASCE 41-06, state of the art seismic evaluation documents. The building and 5-story hose tower structures were strengthened to meet Immediate Occupancy requirements. The project was designed to LEED Gold standards.
