Pike Place Market

seismic analysis and renovation of 15 buildings

Pike Place Market

Seattle, WA

As part of a renewal to the Historic Pike Place Market District, SSF provided a comprehensive seismic analysis of aging buildings at the Market in anticipation of a substantial renovation and seismic retrofit. The study involved architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil and building-envelope analysis. A limited ASCE-31 Tier I analysis and assessment of 15 Market buildings was performed. Shoring design for subterranean levels of the Hillclimb, up to forty five feet below the Flower Row and Leland Bakery buildings, was also included. A variety of structural methods and piles were used to achieve the retrofit goals. Construction was completed for the entire project while the buildings were in full operation.
