Penrose Hotel

Penrose Hotel

Walla Walla, WA

With over 120 wineries and tasting rooms in and around Walla Walla, demand for accommodations is at an all-time high. Named after Whitman College’s third president, Stephen Penrose, the Penrose Hotel is the renovation of the 110-year-old Oddfellows Building combined with a 4-story addition for use as a boutique hotel. The seismic upgrade of the existing structure includes connecting the existing and new wood floor framing systems to the masonry walls and adding 2 new interior full-height braced frames and a new concrete shear wall. This building is on the National Register of Historic Places. The new structure consists of a composite deck with steel framing and concrete shear walls on concrete mat foundations with auger-cast piles. A steel-framed atrium area connects the two buildings. This project will be Walla Walla’s first 4-star hotel.
