The MLK Mixed-use project provides the historic Hilltop and emerging medical district with an identifiable district center. Located halfway between St. Joseph’s Medical Center and Tacoma General at the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Way and 11th Street, the 210,000 SF MLK Mixed-Use project combines a 250-unit apartment complex with 18,000 SF of restaurant and retail. Additionally there will be underground parking to support all uses. Although there are multiple parking levels built into the sloped site, the proposed building is considered to be 6 stories from street level.
The structure will be five levels of Type V conventional wood framed construction for the residential portion, over Type I post-tensioned concrete construction for one residential floor, one retail floor and two levels of underground parking.
Hilltop is one of the City’s first neighborhoods. After years of suburban sprawl, the Hilltop declined. Recently, however, there has been an increase in trends towards urban living, notable hospital and medical related business developments, and the positive re-invention of the surrounding Tacoma cityscape.
The project is scheduled to break ground summer of 2017 and be complete in early 2019.
