Counterbalance Lofts

new mixed-use project on narrow Queen Anne lot

Counterbalance Lofts

Seattle, WA

A new contemporary building on Queen Anne Avenue includes three suite apartments with decks and a 2,500 square foot restaurant space at street level. The project is constructed of concrete block and is intentionally raw and industrial in its aesthetic. The site is very narrow at 30 feet wide. The structural systems are exposed to give the building clarity and architectural integrity. The building’s hybrid structure is a contemporary interpretation of commercial buildings built at the turn of the century. The edifice features masonry load bearing walls at the property line, tongue and groove wood deck floors and roofs supported by heavy timber beams, and steel strong backs for window support at moment frames.
